How to Buy a Home: Phase Four

temp-post-image

Phew! You made it to Closing Day. Now before we can go pop the champagne, we need to get all the legal and financial stuff out of the way.

Here’s what you’ll need to bring with you to the Closing Table…

📃 All the closing paperwork (like the contract!)
💰 Cashier’s or certified check
✅ Proof of homeowners insurance
🙂 Your photo ID

At the Closing Table, you’ll have a stack of paperwork to sign your John Hancock on.

Assuming there’s no leaseback involved, you’ll get the keys to your new home once you’ve signed all the documents and the mortgage has been funded.
Now that you have your new keys, it’s time to do 2 very important things 1️⃣ change the locks and 2️⃣ move in!

Why do I say you should change the locks? While I’m all for believing the best about people, you don’t know who all has keys to your new home. Friends, relatives, acquaintances, vendors, and exes of the former owners could all have keys. And I don’t think you want all of them having access to your home, right?

As far as moving in goes? I’ll give you plenty of moving advice down the road (stay tuned!), but for now, please don’t try to do it all yourself!

Hire packers and movers, and sit back and relax as your new house becomes a home!
