Maintenance Tip

Before school gets back in session, let’s take a moment to get the home ready for Fall. Yeah yeah, I know I’m a little early on preparing for Fall, but let’s face it. Once school starts, everything is just downhill from there.

So here’s what maintenance tasks to go ahead and conquer before school starts:
🏠 Deep clean the carpets.
🏠 Clean exhaust fans.
🏠 Check basement and crawl spaces for moisture.
🏠 Change smoke & CO2 detectors.
🏠 Update first aid kits, safety kits, & emergency contact numbers.
🏠 Deep clean the kitchen. (Sorry, it needs it!).
🏠 Organize closets BEFORE you do Back to School shopping.

Remember that you don’t always have to do home maintenance your...

Homebuyer Tips

You’ve made the big decision to buy your first house! You’re not ready to buy quite yet, but you know it’s in your future in the next year or two.

Here’s what to do between now and then…

✔ Avoid radically changing your career situation. No switching industries or taking a pay cut, okay?

✔ Save for a down payment. The more you can save now, the better off you’ll be. Now you don’t have to put all this money towards a down payment. Some of it will go towards closing costs. And if you play it right, you *should* have some money remaining for repairs, maintenance, and/or any upgrades you want.

✔ Make a list of wants vs needs. Let’s be honest, what you...

Homeownership Expenses

WARNING: You’ll ALWAYS have homeownership expenses, even after you’ve paid off your mortgage.

Here’s some homeownership bills you’ll want to be prepared for…
🏠 Utilities. Even if you drink well water and have solar panels, you’ll still be paying for Internet.

🏠 Property taxes. The amount you pay depends on the property value and where your home is located. Each state & city has a different tax rate.

🏠 Maintenance. Your home will pretty much always need some TLC in order to keep it in good condition.

🏠 Homeowners insurance. You’ll be able to choose your level of coverage, but you want to make sure that if/when disaster strikes, you won’t be she...

Cleaning Tip

Oh no! You spilt red wine on your brand-new carpet! Breath. Just pour some more wine on it and turn your whole carpet red!

Instead of dumping more red wine, pour some white wine over it to neutralize the red.

Then, sop it up with towels.

Easy peasy!

Phew! It’s already 7 PM and you’re *still* not done painting the room. There’s no way for you to get the paint out all those brushes and rollers.

You REALLY don’t want to have to drag yourself to Home Depot tomorrow to buy new ones when the paint dries out.

Do I have a solution for you!

Wrap your brushes and rollers in plastic wrap or throw them in a Ziploc baggie.

Then, throw ‘em in the refrigerator!

Now, the paint won’t dry between uses! 💥💥💥

You’ve heard you need to declutter your house before you list it for sale, right?
Okay, great. So what does that mean and how the heck do you actually do that?

First of all, decluttering your home doesn’t mean you don’t have to get rid of all your stuff – or even half your stuff. It’s literally just you getting rid of (aka donating or selling) things that are just taking up space.

For instance, a few Christmases ago, your “quirky” aunt gave you a very itchy sweater. You wore it once and then swore you’d never wear it ever again. Yet, for some reason, it is still in your closet.

It holds no sentimental value for you. It has no purpose, since you&rs...

Do you need to repair a tear in your window screen? I have some good news for you! You don’t need to go buying a new screen from Home Depot. Go into your bathroom and grab some clear nail polish. Then, apply it to both sides of the tear to seal it up!

PRO TIP: If you LOVE your central air conditioning, you have to take care of it. Once a year, get it serviced by a HVAC professional.

While it may cost you a couple bucks to get this done, it’s going to save you money in the long run.

1️⃣ Its efficiency will increase, helping you keep your power bills from going higher than the empire state.

2️⃣ Its lifespan will also increase, meaning you won’t have to replace your A/C unit for a long time.

You’ll likely also pay less for a routine service call than an emergency call.

My recommendation? Go ahead and get this done ASAP… and by ASAP, I mean TODAY. As temperatures continue to creep up, HVAC contractors get more and more ca...

🏠 Work on decluttering NOW. Don’t wait until it’s time to start packing. The less decisions you have to make during moving season, the better.
